Mamie Tate Obituary

And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you. John 16:22 KJV

On March 1, 2023, God saw fit to call our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and dear friend home. Mrs. Mamie Lois Norman Tate was born on July 27, 1947, in Lincoln County, Georgia, to Mrs. Nancy Norman Hawes and the late Mr. Albert Norman.

Mamie attended Lincoln County Training School and West Side High School. She joined St. Luke Baptist Church at an early age where she served faithfully until her health failed. She was once a choir member, Youth Director in 1984, and Sunday School secretary for over 40 years.

Mamie was very active in the community.  She was a faithful member of the Lincoln County Chapter of NAACP, the Twilight Improvement Association, and the American Legion Post 597 Ladies Auxiliary. She was also an active member of the Lincoln County Leisure Services - Senior Citizen Center.

On January 31, 1965, Mamie married the love of her life, Mr. Clyde Tate, Sr., who preceded her in death. To this union four children were born. Their first child, Annie Delois Tate, was born on July 18, 1965, but God saw fit to take her home that same day.

She leaves to cherish her memory three devoted children, Clyde Tate, Jr., Christopher Tate, and Cynthia Tate; her mother, Mrs. Nancy Norman Hawes; two grandchildren who were the joys of her life, Stacy Enrique (Rique) McClendon and Brenston Antwon (Brent) Hearst; two very special Goddaughters, Carol Tate Stephens and Jayda Mays; two bonus daughters, Tena (Stella)            Walton and Eileen Norman Mays;  two very special sisters, Carol (William) Anderson, McCormick, SC, and Eva (Tracy) Hines, Lincolnton; one very special brother, Willie Albert (Alice) Norman, Tampa, FL; a devoted sister-in-law, Geraldine (Charlie) Watts, Tignall, GA; a devoted brother-in-law, Tommie L. Tate, Lincolnton, and one devoted uncle, Fred Bolton, Lincolnton; a devoted friend and neighbor, Ricky Mercier and family; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
