Lera Andrews Hicks was born March 15, 1946 in Lincolnton, Georgia to the late Wilson Andrews, Sr. and Mamie Lue (Zellars) Andrews. She was the fourth of eight children. Lera departed this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 26, 2023. She was preceded in death by her daughter Jennifer L. Hicks.
Lera graduated from Lincoln County Training School. She moved to Augusta and was employed at the VA Hospital for 40 years as the supervisor of the Central Supply Department. She married the love of her life on July 23, 1970. She loved her family and grandchildren, enjoyed working as a church missionary, gardening, cooking sweet potato pies, and taking family trips. Little known fact she was an awesome fisherman; she would out fish her husband every time.
Lera accepted Christ at an early age. She joined St. Luke Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Deaconess until her health declined. She assisted wherever she was needed at St. Luke from working with Missionary, Sunday School, Choir, and Usher board. She also worked faithfully as a Deaconess and Missionary Worker at her husband’s church New Exodus Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, GA.
Lera leaves to cherish her precious memories her husband of 53 years, Herbert Hicks Sr., a daughter: Marilyn Hicks and sons: Omar Hicks, Robert Davis and Herbert Hicks, Jr; grandchildren: Aaniyah Hicks, Omar Jr, Ayannah Morgan, Makayla Hicks, Damiyah Goodwin, Joshua Hicks, Brooke Hicks, Roshena Weston, Robert Weston, Rysheicka Weston, Jessica Weston, Dedrick Hicks, Douglas Flournoy, Marcus Mosley, Britney Bartley, and Briana Hicks; plus 14 great grandchildren.
She also leaves her siblings: Marvin Andrews, Wyatt (Annie) Andrews, Sr. Constance (Ernest-deceased) Parker, Ora (Milton -deceased) Hill, Wilson Andrews, Jr. Deborah (Charles) Jenkins, Shirley Andrews, and two special daughters Mary Anderson and Xiomara (CeCe) Bailey and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
